The largest exhibition of photographic and imaging equipment ever held in the Southern Hemisphere will open at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre, Friday 21- Sunday 23 May 1999. Major photo and digital companies in Australia, plus companies from overseas will showcase the latest developments and trends in imaging technology. Known as the Photo & Imaging Show, the three-day event is organised by the Photographic and Imaging Council of Australia (PICA) and attracts members of the photo industry from across Australia and around the world. "This is promising to be the most exciting show the industry has ever seen," said Paul Curtis, the Executive Director of PICA. "There have been some revolutionary advances in both digital and photographic imaging. Show visitors will be able to see and handle these developments while learning about their business applications. "Every aspect is covered. From the latest hi-tech zoom lens digital camera to TV craft expert Tonya Todman showing how to create photo albums with a difference. "The Photo & Imaging Show gives you the total picture. Visitors cannot only handle the latest equipment, they will also be able to see how that equipment is used by some of Australia's top photographers." Visitors will be able to watch and hear the photo judging process in action. A special theatre on the exhibition floor features a working panel of judges determining the successful entries in the Australian Professional Photography Awards. "This event is unique. No other exhibition in the world combines a major photo display and photo judging with an equipment display," Paul Curtis said. Although the event is primarily aimed at retailers and professional image-makers, keen imaging enthusiast are welcome. These people will be admitted free on Sunday 23rd of May between 10.30am and 5.15pm. Further information can be obtained from the PICA website: photoimaging.com.au, or by ringing the show prerecorded information line: 1902 240 521.
