TRAVELING LIGHT – ELINCHROM BATTERY OPERATED STUDIO FLASH BREAKS THE WEIGHT BARRIER

Sydney August 4th 2009 -  Kayell Australia has announced the availability of Elinchrom’s new Ranger Quadra AS portable battery powered flash.

The AS stands for ‘asymmetrical’, which means that one flash-head can fire at 66% power and the second head at 33%, for a true 2:1 lighting ratio when needed. Other significant features include inbuilt Elinchrom    Skyport radio remote receiver for wireless triggering and control over power settings.

Advanced features aside, it is the extreme light weight and compact size that makes Ranger Quadra AS the first ‘go anywhere’ studio-quality lighting system, as Kayell Managing Director Robert Gatto notes:

“Elinchrom engineers have come up with an amazing light weight battery operated flash in the Ranger Quadra. The power pack and battery weight is only 3Kg and a complete two-head kit fits into a briefcase-sized case, enabling photographers to take controllable studio light almost anywhere they go.”

At 400Ws output, the Ranger Quadra AS is less powerful than Elinchrom’s Ranger RX at 1100Ws, but is significantly lighter and still packs enough punch for the increasingly popular location portraiture trend. Two lightweight heads are available, the standard RQS and high-speed RQA which freezes action with a 1/6000s strobe burst. A range of reflectors and a new softbox deliver all the add-ons you would expect in a flash system costing many times more.

The 12-volt 3.2 Ah lead-gel battery charges in only 1.5 hours and delivers up to 150 flashes at maximum power or 2,000 flashes at minimum power. The modeling light is a low-energy 20W LED array delivering the equivalent of a 50W Halogen lamp with a colour temp of 5500k and if you spend most of the day outdoors a spare battery is only $295, should extended location work be called for.

All in all, the new Elinchrom Ranger Quadra AS system represents one of the most significant advances in professional lighting in many years. Its intelligent flash power features, intelligent slave cell with auto-detected red-eye pre-flash and programmable effects add high-end features to studio lighting that can travel almost anywhere the photographer goes. It’s priced right too with kits starting at $2295.00.

Ranger Quadra AS stocks are due into Kayell’s warehouses in mid-August and already pre-order demand is high. Elinchrom is exclusively distributed by Kayell Australia
